I participated in a fall reading challenge a couple years back over at Callapidder Days, and thought I would participate again this year to help hold myself accountable to some the books on my to-be-read list!
Below is the list of books I'd like to read this fall - the challenge runs September 23rd - December 21st, so I have about three months to get 'er done. I'm going to stick to what is actually reasonable for me...I could list about a hundred books I want to read (and, after clearing the shelves at a Borders going out of business sale a couple months back, I have a to-be-read stack that's about as tall as me). But, I've got lots going on this fall (trips...weddings...football games...countless DIY projects), so in the interest of having a life AND getting in some good reading, I'm keeping it manageable :) If I had a beach vacation coming up, I'd whiz through all of these in a matter of days, but sadly, sun, sand and nothing else to do just isn't on the fall agenda.
Hopefully I'll be able to make it through these, and if I find I have more time on my hands than I thought and get through them all, I will update my challenge and add more books! Be sure to check out the other participants in the challenge, it's a great way to find out some new books to add to your reading list!
Water for Elephants / Sara Gruen - Will definitely have to see the movie after I finish the book!
The Ragamuffin Gospel / Brennan Manning - I heard about this one from someone at my church, and it is supposed to be a great one - we're all ragamuffins and anyone who says they aren't is straight up lying.
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan / Lisa See - This is another one I've been wanting to read for years and finally got around to buying at the Borders clearance.
The Girl Who Played with Fire / Stieg Larsson - I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for my book club earlier this year, and want to finish the trilogy (this is the second book in the series).
As I finish the books, I'll be posting updates!
What's on your nightstand right now?
Looks good, Kristen! I've read Water for Elephants (it was very good!), but none of the other ones. I've heard of The Ragamuffin Gospel though, and heard it was excellent. Thanks for being part of the challenge! Enjoy your fall reading!
ReplyDeleteGreat books. I loved Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and Water for Elephants - both were picks for my book club and led to great discussions. We also read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and I need to finish reading the rest of the series.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your reading. My list has 25 books on it - a combo of review books and books that will help me complete the other reading challenges I am participating in.
Looks like a good list. I've heard Ragamuffin Gospel is good too. I should add it to my list. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! a lot of these are books I've been wanting to read also. I really enjoyed Snow Flower and the Secret Fan - great book! Good luck with your challenge!
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot about the Ragamuffin Gospel, seeing it here on your list reminds me I really should pick it up. Good luck with the challenge!
